The chapter begins with Edward and Alphonse Elric standing in front of the Gate of Truth, where they encounter Truth, a mysterious being that resides in the gate. The circle is designed to absorb the souls of everyone in Amestris to create a massive philosopher's stone that the father can use to become a god.As the battle rages, Roy Mustang confronts Envy, the shape-shifting homunculus that killed his best friend, Maes Hughes. Roy unleashes his flames on Envy, who transforms into a giant monster in an attempt to defeat him. However, Roy is able to use his flames to burn Envy from the inside out, killing him.Back at the Gate of Truth, Edward and Alphonse show up and reunite with their friends. They explain to everyone what they learned from the Truth and come up with a plan to stop Father's transmutation circle. Realizing that the circle is powered by the souls of the people of Amestris, they decide to use alchemy to create a counter-circle that reverses the flow of souls and prevents them from being absorbed.The chapter ends with the Elric brothers and their allies heading to Central City to execute their plan and stop their father once and for all.
